Warner Bros. is reportedly in talks with Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in the forthcoming Suicide Squad, to develop a spinoff movie for the fan favorite character. But rather than a Harley Quinn solo film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, WB is contemplating an ensemble film starring some of DC Comics’ other female heroes and villains.
Word has it that Robbie, who would also produce, brought the project to WB; that after researching the character of Harley Quinn for Suicide Squad, she became fascinated by characters like Batgirl and the Birds of Prey. Or at least, those are the names that THR is suggesting; no comment from WB. Robbie also apparently brought on a female screenwriter, though her identity is being as closely guarded as which characters would appear in the movie.
Our first vote is Poison Ivy, obviously.
THR points out that DC has seen success with its DC Super Hero Girls comics, animated series, and toys introducing younger audiences to aged-down versions of Quinn, Ivy, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Katana, and Bumblebee. It probably wouldn’t be a stretch to see several of these characters cross over into live action and the big screen.
We’ll get our first look at Robbie’s take on Harley Quinn when Suicide Squad smashes its way into theaters August 5.
